So many awesome things happening! (featuring Homestyle Customs & Craft Closet)

by | Jul 28, 2022 | Laser Cutting | 23 comments

Where do I even begin with all of this? Let me first off explain these two amazing oppurtunities and what it means! More or less, if you are a member of the laser community- this is something you have to read! I feel like most of the people chilling with my blog are laser folks anyways. If not and you just want to see what is up in my life, that is also cool!

As always, I support fellow fans, followers and everyone who reads, purchases and watches the things I do. If it is one thing I am passionate about, it’s being a member of the laser community and working with other companies, creators and individuals so we can all grow together.

Homestyle Customs

If you are a member of the laser community and are not familiar with yet, you should really check out all the amazing files they design and make! Iv’e been a HUGE fan of their files since I got my laser last year. It started off as their first responders bundle which then turned into some of their sign displays, and now I am super happy to announce I will be helping out and collaborating with their team on testing and photographing new files!

For those who do not know what file testing is and why designers need file testers- before a designer releases a file, it’s best to test it with a machine or two, that way you can ensure everything fits together correctly. Iv’e been testing out all these amazing new snap files (as I like to call them) which allow people with smaller lasers to make larger signs! It’s perfect if you cannot find large material as well.

Craft Closet

Craft Closet for those who are not familiar is a supplier of all kinds of supplies and materials, ranging from their signature COLORboard line up to fancy acrylics, beautiful pastels and more. They are also one of the only places I have ever seen sell shell veneers and bamboo sheets. Not only do they have a great line up of products, but their customer service is phenominal to top it all off.

Iv’e been communicating with the team over there on turning some of my pattern designs into COLORboard options for the community! They have a very active Facebook group and do all kinds of lives, tutorials, contests and even giveaways.

Hi! Just wanted to say I am a big follower and love your work. I just commented on the first post that popped up cuz I wanted to let you know your work is appreciated and you matter. I also wanted to congratulate you with your accomplishments. I saw the commentary from “that place” and wanted to reach out to you because I feel like you handled it very professionally and that other person was being extremely rude about it. I am so sorry that you have to deal with that. Just so you know someone cannot copyright an idea… Read more »

Holy Jeepers! Did not think you would reply to me at all. I know where you are coming from trying to keep the peace, but that person was way over stepping their boundaries and has no idea what copyrights even are to make a statement like they made. It made me not want to purchase from someone like that seeing that they do not understand what is within their rights and I feel their demeanor is extremely unprofessional and rude. People will take and make note of it which they are. While yes it is unfortunate some people are sending… Read more »

You know, I actually patrol those groups with my wife and she was aw struck at how, pardon my language, ignorant some people are with their arguments and what they think they own. Our laser is 3 years old. She has been working with the inserts for the past 3 years and has done all kinds of shapes. This is not new. She has done hearts, circles and everything you can think of. She has also done special ones for Christmas, thanksgiving, birthdays and halloween. She actively posts. She draws characters like turkeys and Santas and uses special prints for… Read more »

How someone talks and treats someone else speaks great towards there character as a person and business owner. Im not talking about just this situation but in general. You get so many people claiming to be original but nothing is really original anymore. I do love the gossip and drama but watching from afar lol. On one of the posts I watched someone get upset because someone put a line in there design to break up the inlays and the person went NUTS because they claimed they started that trend and owned the rights to it. WHAT. I have been… Read more »

Wife says her WTF moment as you say was when she showed some photos of her new collection and immediately got all this hate for not selling those particular files. This was about a year and a half back. People actually started to harass her and comment on her work belittling her because she wasn’t openly selling the files she worked her butt off on and took months to perfect this collection. It was a tough few weeks when that collection was released and the hate she got from other makers but she soon realized they were not her customers… Read more »

Well I see my original post was rejected lol. I agree with both of you. I just want to chime in and say OP did nothing wrong, said person is a moron and my statement rests at that. Now I’m just waiting for that file release lol.

Hey you guys will laugh at this. So my laser friend of three years was telling me she’s in the ladies jewelry group. Primarily women at least. Some chick got so pissed off at someone she knows because she made this layered flower set and used a gem design and this woman went into a frenzy about how she stole the gem idea from her and said she was reporting her for theft etc. It was a DIAMOND shaped gem! Now she’s getting all this hate mail because of a stupid gem design. Oi vey. Reminds me of that person… Read more »

I feel like my wife was in that group cause she was talking about something like that this morning.

I do not make jewelry but I’d be interested in seeing some of your work and showing my wife. She would understand it a lot more than myself but you should post it.

I have no idea if these will upload but here are some of my first designs I did over a year ago as inlays. I will have to take some photos of the actual ones. These have never seen online I do not post and do not sell files or products online. I bet something like these exist though because they are fairly simple and easy to design. The present one is my fav. I call these ribbon style. Sorry for the watermark but it seems warranted these days lol

I can see them. So what is ribbon style exactly? I presume there is a bit that goes in the center that looks like a ribbon?

The centers I usually put text with sayings. Like for the heart I commonly put names of people or sayings such as love cats or dogs etc. For the present one I commonly do it as two layers. So I have the outline then the inlays and then I glue the heart and bow on top.

For example one lady had me do on her heart a saying that says love my daughters in the center ribbon.

I like that idea. It makes them feel personal.

Also I think you should make a blog thread for these situations to be posted so we can share and provide help on how to handle them. Some are so obscene and out there that we can’t be the only ones going through this.

You would be surprised how it speaks to character. I do understand where you are coming from and respect that. I also feel Amanda has some great points on originality. Don’t think of it as you not being helpful or causing issues. That person clearly does not understand their work just isnt as original as they are thinking. Anyone can put a heart in the center of a design or change up the inserts. Who is to say someone buys your file and swaps out the shape and adds a heart? It is a very easy and simple shape. You… Read more »

Agreed. You have a lot of fans and supporters here to back you up. I for one really find your blog area very helpful and ordered a few things on prime based on your suggestions. If you are looking for ideas I like the Amazon wishlists and I would be interested in hearing some of your personal business experiences on things that worked and didn’t work for you.

Just a heads up I don’t see that person posting anymore and I think they removed their comments. Serves them right. Bet they offended others with their “I own tear drops and hearts in the center shapes” spiel lol. Anyways thought you should know incase you want to spread light on it.

Reading the comments here is actually really helpful for my situation. I never even thought of most of these things and how that can impact me and my business. Now I am wondering if I should start fresh and change my name. Idk. What do you think? What if people start going after me or put me on a list or something not to buy from?
